Maybe he does have ulterior motives? I mean, they are the primary ship in the comics and he's also comparing them to a movie he just wrote, so it still could be a publicity thing.These are all my thoughts. :D
But I’m remembering him comparing Bangel to Twilight last year-ish and I wonder if he’s been kind of disenchanted with them because of comparisons? Which don’t really go past broody vampire/teenage girl imo and I was moderately annoyed/amused at the comparison, but if he’s taking that seriously…
I don’t know. I don’t really think it’s ever necessary to choose a ship, especially if you’re still the final voice of a series, and it’s almost unprofessional that he would say this and mean it.
(I am still making him a #SPUFFY SHIPPER gif atm because he and Jane E can have matching ones now, but…yeah. :/)
