You know what’s really distasteful to me tho? The constant attitude of “Spike needs to ~man up~ and get over Buffy, Spike needs to stop trailing after her like a puppy dog and make lots of throwaway comments about it.”

Spike’s role since bs8 ended has been superhero’s sidekick-cum-love interest, where he’s been loyal support to Buffy and also v. much in love with her. Which is the role hundreds of excellent female characters have played for the male ~heroes~ of their series. But on Spike, ofc, it’s suddenly soo pathetic that he’s in love with Buffy and she doesn’t openly reciprocate!! Because man!! Man in charge!! Man not in charge is worth nothing!!
Not to mention the fact that it makes Spike into the old breed of Nice Guy, where it’s only okay to support Buffy if he’s either getting her love in the process or not seeking it at all. Perish the thought that a dude can have unresolved feelings for a lady without running off for ten issues to ~find himself~ because it’s so anti-everything in the world that the guy doesn’t get the girl~
