In which Connor almost has another age-inappropriate fling with a girl (who, to be fair, is only a couple of years older than him):
Gunn starts taking him to help Anne out as a kind of bonding activity that Angel pressures him into after the events of Not Fade Away. And Connor’s not nearly smooth enough to hide the fact that he’s got a crush on her, but luckily, she thinks that it’s cute and that he’s so helpful with his super-strength (and suddenly desire to move mountains for her) that she doesn’t turn him down when he asks her out on a date…
…Which ends quickly, because she says she finds him charming but he’s really just a kid, but they part on good terms and he’s still besotted and visiting her all the time. A strong friendship emerges, even if Connor secretly believes that she’ll change her mind in time.

The first time they’d met, it was in a hospital right after LA had gone to hell and taken Gunn, Spike, and half the slayers that Buffy had rushed to LA as backup with it. Buffy and Dawn had come to see a newly shanshued Angel; Connor had been reluctant but dragged himself there, too. He’d bumped into Dawn before he’d known who she was and flirted shamelessly until they’d both realized that they were headed to the same hospital room, and then flirting had become something closer to Angel-mocking in the hallway while the door lay open behind them.
Buffy had been amused, Angel scowly but resigned; and then both had caught wind of the chemistry between the two teens and were moderately disturbed by the idea. But the slayer and the former vampire were caught up in their own drama, so Dawn and Connor had more time to bond…and mock…and flirt. They shared a mutual frustration with their families, a mutual remarkably small period of time in this dimension, and that was more than enough to persuade Dawn that she’d really rather go to college in LA than in Cleveland, thankyouverymuch. Buffy is suitably horrified and makes a hasty retreat from LA, a reluctant Dawn in tow.
And then they went and lived in Hannah’s headcanon and the rest is history.
